BETTER UNLOAD YOUR GUN

This week, I was reminded how important forgiveness is to authentic Christianity.

I was reminded how difficult forgiveness is especially when we’ve been deeply hurt.

I was reminded how impossible forgiveness is without submitting to Jesus Christ.

I was reminded how Jesus forgave the people who crucified Him WHILE He was being crucified (Luke 23:34).

I was reminded how forgiveness isn’t for them. It is most definitely for us.

And finally I was reminded about a poem I wrote many years ago when I was struggling with forgiving the unforgivable actions of selfish people:

BETTER UNLOAD YOUR GUN

I woke up this morning

the same way I went to sleep

Bruised, bloodied, and broken

By wolves disguised as sheep

They all sound the same

Until you feel their pain

I don’t know how it happened

And I can’t find a reason why

All I see are the stones

Thrown from hands that once held mine

Lots of sinners without sin

Who’ve forgotten where they’ve been

Whatever you are searching for

Is exactly what you will find

And time can heal all wounds

Except the ones still on your mind

Taking these thoughts captive

Is easier said than done

But if you wanna wake up someday

You’d better unload your gun

Truth can be found in mirrors

No matter what lies are believed

I can see the beast I’m fighting

In every reflection I see

I whisper a prayer and then

I start all over again

Listening to the voices

Screaming in your head

Always ends up

With the wrong people dead

Why can’t we see

Our real enemy?

Whatever you are searching for

Is surely what you will find

And time can heal all wounds

Except the ones still on your mind

Letting go of your anger

Is easier said than done

But if you wanna wake up tomorrow

You’ve gotta unload your gun

Giving up all the pain

Will never be completely done

Until we’ve made the choice

To permanently unload our gun

Give up your right to hurt

And you won’t be hurt by anyone
